Their ethics test started while driving Tuesday on Michigan Avenue near Peel Avenue.
It was my husband’s day off, and we were out running errands,” Kandice Kemlenton said Thursday. I saw two white plastic bags that looked like hospital specimen bags and told my husband they pro adidas predator bably belong to someone. We picked them up and he said, Oh my God, Kandice, it’s money.”’
The two bags, one containing $26,000 and the other $10,000 in $20 bills, had an address for First Union Bank on Herndon Avenue near Orlando Fashion Square. The couple drove there to return the cash but could not find the address. It was getting late so they went home and called the bank Wednesday.
It was like a Twilight Zone thing,” Kandice Kemlenton said.
We got an anonymous call saying the money was in our collection box,” said Carlos Cantor, a supervisor at the Dixie Village post office on Delaney Avenue. I took it right over to the local First Union Bank and gave it to them.”
Kandice Kemlenton said she and her husband didn’t call police because they knew whose money it was.
Turns out the cash was on the way to a local automated teller machine when it lost its way.
The money was checked adidas predator out by a Loomis Fargo crew we hire to replenish our ATM machines,” First Union spokesman Ken Darby said. They are conducting their own internal investigation into what happened to the bags. If we had not received the money, they would have been responsible for replacing it.”
As a reward the couple will get $1,000 for their favorite charity, free financial services for life and a special luncheon with the president of First Union in Orlando, Darby said.
We feel the citizenship of this couple deserves some kind of recognition,” he said.
Representatives from Loomis Fargo in Orlando and its corporate headquarters in Houston would not comment.
People say wouldn’t it be great to just find a bag full of money,” said Kaine Kemlenton, an Epcot chef. But I believe that most people would have done the same thing we did unless they were really destitute.”
