Some of the travelers who were evacuated from the west side of the terminal, where the bag had been spotted, had missed flights on Monday due to the snowstorm and were worried they were about to be delayed again.
“It’s a bunch of crap,” Jim Mehas, 53, of Cincinnati said when he heard the package wasn’t actually smoking.
“I was waiting for my flight and three policeman came in and said, ‘Evacuate the building. Everybody outide. No questions,'” he said. “I’m frustrated because my flight was cancelled yesterday.”
Anthony DelMundo/New York Daily News The partial evacuation lasted for about an hour. The bag was not smoking when cops arrived at the scene, but bomb squad investigators had to test the luggage to ensure that it was safe.
Kay Wieczorek, 69, also missed a flight Monday because of snow and ran into the delay at Terminal C.
“You wanna be safe,” she said. “But I just hope they didn’t overreact.”
But Karen Snyder, 67, of Indianapolis, said she was grateful airport security officials were being cautious.
“There’s nothing they could do about it,” she said. “We have to stay safe.”
